The Safe Sizer™ choking prevention plate is a brightly colored child’s plate that comes in 3 fun designs, with a special safety feature to help reduce the risk of children choking on food. It incorporates a ˝ inch diameter ring molded into the plate that parents can place the bite-size morsel of food into for proper size measurement. The ˝ inch size comes from the FDA's recognition of the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation that children under 4 years not be fed any round, firm foods unless they are cut up into pieces smaller than ˝ inch in any direction. The Safe Sizer™ plate provides an instant reminder and measurement gauge for parents on what size pieces are appropriate for their child's food to be cut into for meals, and offers peace of mind when leaving their kids with caregivers less accustomed to feeding children, like grandparents and babysitters.
To use the gauge, place a piece of cut up food inside the ring, turn to ensure it fits in every direction, and then hand the plate to the child. Simple and effective, the Safe Sizer™ is dishwasher-safe.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, about 75 children under 14 die annually from choking on food and 7,500 go to emergency rooms. Children under 2 have the highest rate of choking deaths, but all children under 4 years are vulnerable because they lack a full set of teeth.
